My Drug of Choice

Non-hygienic SugarCane juice can be found everywhere. They have engine-powered and hand-powered machines to make it. Like the one shown below, but these machines do not get cleaned, so we stayed away from them.

My Grandfather told me about SugarCane juice while we were in Delhi, he said that my family knew of a place that had hygienic and clean juice. The photo is grainy because I took this through a mesh used to keep bugs out.

The health benefits of SugarCane juice are listed in the photo below. Since clearly there is ‘no sugar added’ in sugarcane juice, it must be super healthy and good for you!

Clearly, since the juice is soooo healthy, we had to visit this shop 2-3 times a day. After arriving in Mumbai we missed our new addiction, so much we tried to track down some more. Several restaurants carried it, but it just wasn’t the same.

We figured Mumbai was going to be the last place we would find it but lo and behold! We found it in Dubai!!!!

Talk about awesome! We had to have two glasses.

I miss my drug.

Song of the Day

Pink Floyd – Wish You Were Here

I wish I was there…

India – (Not) The Final Frontier

Stardate: 212016. Bags are like 99% packed…. I think. Just remember everyone, if we forget something on this trip, we are blaming Kevin. Sorry Kev.

I now have a will. I’m now “that guy”. While talking with a family friend he made a comment saying that after a week of India I will want to be home. I think since we aren’t staying in one location for more than 1 or 2 nights, I won’t be sitting still long enough to even think of home.

Tech Free? Not!

I am bringing my phone and laptop so I can keep in contact with family and blog/vlog. Part of me wishes I could just let everything go and just be there. No camera to take pictures, no phone to call family, no laptop to upload pictures and content.

It isn’t because I don’t want to be in touch with people. It’s that I want time that belongs solely to me and my grandfather. I know that the essence of this trip really is that, but it would be nice to just be tech free for a day or a trip.

Just Ready to Be There!

My family Is being awesome about my leaving. I am trying to tone down the true level of excitement I have so I don’t burn them talking about it. As the hours tick closer to takeoff, I am just ready to be there.

I have some goals for this trip

· Come home with a pet Himalayan Blue Sheep

· Do not come home half eaten by the tigers

· Do not get bitten by any snakes

· Take amazing vlogs

· Spend time with family I have never met

· EAT ALL THE FOODS (insert meme here)

· Do not come home with a bride

· Figure out how to make yearly work trips like this

The Food

I made a bad decision last night and decided to look up different foods in the regions we will be staying. I did this on an empty stomach and I was ready by the third page to go to the market and pick up all the ingredients to try everything I saw. Not smart to do at 3am.

Review of The PARADISE GARDEN LAS VEGAS BUFFET AT FLAMINGO LAS VEGAS HOTEL AND CASINO

logo

My Dad and I have visited Las Vegas about 4 times in the last 7 years. We are not drinkers or gamblers and we typically only go there for work conventions like SHOT Show.

One of our rituals WAS going to the Flamingo for crab legs. In years past we would go there and each eat an abundance of crab legs and our waiters would joke about us having to crab walk out of there with how big our guts got.

The 2014 trip was very different. I had planned to review the buffet with my staff Thursday night of our trip, I contacted the hotel and we were sent to the Concierge of the Flamingo, Deborah Bergen.  She did everything in her power to help me on my quest to write a few reviews of different buffets on the strip. Next time you are in Las Vegas go and visit her as she did a wonderful job.

We were seated quickly since there were not that many people there at 7pm on a Thursday. We ordered our drinks, which took 10 minutes to get to us, in an area where our waiter had only one other table. As we were coming back from getting our first (and last) plate of crab legs, I overheard the patron next to us order two beers for his dinner. I sat down and saw the crab legs were not even cut so you get get to the meat like it use to be. The four of us are prying the legs open for small worthless slivers of crab leg. I gave up on my crab legs.  I decided to try some prime rib, which I couldn’t eat because the meat was raw.  I found out later that server had to grill each slice of prime rib to make it edible.
I enjoy sushi and when I saw it on the buffet line I was looking forward to having it.  Another disappointment. The sushi was a dried out, flavorless roll.  I moved on to deep fried chicken, which was over cooked. By this point, the patron next to us still had not gotten his first beer. I have finished my iced tea and was waiting for a refill.  The waiter was hanging out alone in his cubby hole for drinks and dishes.

Frustrated, I apologized to my staff and promised that we will never be returning. The cost of the buffet is not worth the hassle of bad food. Normally I would have gotten a manager involved but I wasn’t sure how long it would take for them to find him and we still had other plans for the night.

If you are in Las Vegas and planning a trip to a buffet your best bet is to stay away from the Flamingo.
